Beschreibung: The kinesin superfamily of proteins (KIFs) consists of a class of microtubule-dependent motors that play a major role in many cellular and developmental functions, including organelle transport, mitosis, meiosis, and possibly long-range signaling in neurons. The kinesin proteins are involved in organelle transport and are primarily associated with anterograde transport of vesicles and organelles in neurons, epithelial cells, and melanosomes with bidirectional transport of mitochondria. They also mediate transport between the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and the Golgi complex. In neurons, kinesin motors conduct vesicular transport, such as of synaptic vesicle components to axons and of neurotransmitter receptors to dendrites. KIF17 belongs to the functionally diverse subgroup of the kinesin superfamily characterized by a N-terminal motor domain (N-IV class), that includes the KIF3 motor protein. KIF17 is specifically expressed in the brain, present in abundance in the gray matter, particularly in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex, but not in the white matter such as the optic nerve.

Beschreibung: ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters are an evolutionarily conserved family of widely-expressed proteins that use ATP hydrolysis to catalyze the transport of various molecules across extracellular and intracellular membranes. As the largest family of transmembrane proteins, ABC genes comprise several subfamilies (ABC1, ABCA, ABCE, ABCF, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20 and White (also known as ABCG)). In bacteria, ABC transporters are used to import compunds that cannot be obtained by diffusion. Eukaryotic ABC transporters are largely responsible for trafficking hydrophobic compounds either within the cell as part of a metabolic process or outside the cell for transport to other organs, or for secretion from the body. ABCB9 (also designated transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP)-like or TAPL) forms a homodimer, which is localized in lysosomes. It functions as an ATP-dependent peptide transporter that shows a broad peptide specificity ranging from 6-mer up to 59-mer peptides. ABCB9 transports these peptides with low affinity but high efficiency.

Beschreibung: Functions as a polyspecific organic cation transporter, efficiently transporting many organic cations such as monoamine neurotransmitters 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium and biogenic amines including serotonin, dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine. May play a role in regulating central nervous system homeostasis of monoamine neurotransmitters. May be involved in luminal transport of organic cations in the kidney and seems to use luminal proton gradient to drive organic cation reabsorption. Does not seem to transport nucleoside and nucleoside analogs such as uridine, cytidine, thymidine, adenosine, inosine, guanosine, and azidothymidine. In (PubMed:16873718) adenosine is efficiently transported but in a fashion highly sensitive to extracellular pH, with maximal activity in the pH range 5.5 to 6.5. Glu-206 is essential for the cation selectivity and may function as the charge sensor for cationic substrates. Transport is chloride and sodium-independent but appears to be sensitive to changes in membrane potential. Weakly inhibited by the classical inhibitors of equilibrative nucleoside transport, dipyridamole, dilazep, and nitrobenzylthioinosine. May play a role in the regulation of extracellular adenosine concentrations in cardiac tissues, in particular during ischemia.

Beschreibung: GLUT12 belongs to a family of transporters that catalyse the uptake of sugars through facilitated diffusion. Thirteen different types of glucose/fructose transport carrier proteins designated as Glut 1-13 facilitate glucose/fructose transport across the cell membrane. Individual members of the Glut family have predicted secondary structure characteristic of 12 membrane spanning domains of other transport carriers.

Beschreibung: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the superfamily of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters. ABC proteins transport various molecules across extra- and intra-cellular membranes. ABC genes are divided into seven distinct subfamilies (ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, and White). This ABC full-transporter is a member of the MRP subfamily which is involved in multi ATP-dependent transporter probably involved in cellular detoxification through lipophilic anion extrusion.

Beschreibung: Equilibrative nucleoside transporters (ENTs) regulate many physiological processes and are widely distributed in mammals, plants, yeasts, insects, nematodes and protozoans. They enable facilitated diffusion of hydrophilic nucleosides, such as adenosine and nucleoside analogs, across cell membranes. ENTs are required for uptake of antiviral and anticancer nucleoside drugs and influence a variety of physiological processes, such as neurotransmission and platelet aggregation, by regulating the amount of adenoside available to cell surface receptors. Equilibrative nucleoside transporter 2 (ENT2), also designated solute carrier family 29 (nucleoside transporters), member 2, belongs to the SLC29A transporter family and is a mammalian ENT isoform. ENT2 mediates the equilibrative transport of hypoxanthine in addition to nucleosides and is purine-selective.
