n-Octyl-β-D-Glucopyranoside is a non-ionic detergent for membrane protein.
n-Octyl-glucoside is a non-ionic alkyl-glucoside detergent commonly used in the solubilization of membrane proteins and phospholipids. n-Octyl-glucoside has been used at a molar dependant ratios for the solubilization of phosphatidylcholine bilayers. n-Octyl-glucoside has been used for protein crystallization, as well as for enhancement of oligosaccharide cleavage from glycoproteins using endoglycosidase F.
Soluble in water (10 mg/ml - clear colourless solution). 20-25 mM Detergents with high CMC values are generally easy to remove by dilution; detergents with low CMC values are advantageous for separations on the basis of molecular weight. As a general rule, detergents should be used at their CMC and at a detergent-to-protein weight ratio of approximately ten.
