Palmitic acid methyl ester is a 17 carbon saturated fatty acid ester.
Palmitic Acid methyl ester has been reported to cause autolysis of membranous structures, especially mitochondria. Studies on rat superior cervical ganglion (SCG) suggest that Palmitic Acid methyl ester is released from SCG and induces significant aortic dilation. Furthermore, this compound displays the ability to inhibit phagocytic activity and NO production of certain cells. Additionally, Palmitic Acid methyl ester appears to reduce levels of TNFα, PGE2, and IL-10 without affecting ATP levels.
Soluble in dichloromethane (22 mg/ml- clear, colorless solution).
