Zuerst müssen die Elemente vorgekühlt werden bis die Flüssigkeit fest geworden ist. Dies tritt normalerweise ein, wenn die Temperatur um 5 °C niedriger als der Schmelzpunkt der Flüssigkeit ist. Die Vorkühlzeit hängt von der Anzahl der zu kühlenden Flüssigkeitselemente ab.
